We have been doing this since we were married in 1974.

Cloverdale B&B Getaway

Kathy and Tim surprised us with a B & B getaway in Cloverdale to thank us for taking care of Siera in August of 2012. Her family went to Belize and left her behind because she was too little. See last year's newsletter about Sierra staying with us.

Costa Rica

In July we joined Kathy, Tim, Rylan, Aubrey and Sierra (and even the Lims) in Costa Rica. Below are some photos from our trip. All the photos we took are on my flickr account. And a detailed write up about our trip is written up in my blog.

Annual PEAR Family Reunion

I had so much fun at this year's reunion! Not only did I make a pinata, I also came up with lots of entertainment. More details on my blog. And, did you know? There is a facebook page for the Gray PEAR Affair.

New Power

After being in our house for over 30 years, Robert decided this was the year to run electricity to the barn. He dug the entire trench himself I love having a light in the barn at 6:30 in the morning when I go out to feed the cats.

Tree Cutting

Robert just can't help himself. When there is a tree in need of cutting, he has to do it himself. The trunk now serves as a climbing adventure for the kids.

Barn Painting

After more than ten years, it was very evident this year the barn needed painting. You can read more about our barn painting by downloading my October Update Booklet and going to page 3.

Indian Valley

Before Kathy and family moved up from Southern California I imagined many day hikes with her, Tim, and the kids. Surprisingly those occasions have been far and few between. In February we all did enjoy a very nice day hike in Indian Valley in Novato. It seems I didn't realize the kids just needed to be bigger! Now that they are, I am counting on many more day hikes with the Pines.

Annadel

Annadel State Park is one our most favorite places for a day hike. Special sights included cattails dropping so much fuzz it looked like snow. Then there was the monster in the woods that chased Robert into the clinging tree branches and the lonely bridge in the middle of a huge field.

Sierra's Birthday

As often happens, Sierra celebrated her birthday on Super Bowl Sunday. Her actual birthday fell on February 5. I made her a dress with a matching purse, leggings and a long-sleeved top. I couldn't resist making the same ensemble for Aubrey as well. I also made a matching vest for a stuffed rabbit Sierra had sent to my house for repair (Sadie ate it) and wrapped it up to give back to Sierra, all fixed. I celebrated my birthday on February 6 right after Sierra. In the picture below Aubrey and Sierra are posing with me with the flowers Chris sent me for my birthday!

Rylan's Birthday

Before Rylan and family headed to Costa Rica, we had a pool and birthday party for Rylan. His mom made him a volcano cake. After all, what else do you make for a eight-year-old on his way to Costa Rica?

Thanksgiving

Tim and Kathy hosted Thanksgiving this year. Very nice! We were also honored by Dennis and DeeDee Pine coming all the way from Southern California. Santa Nick seems to gotten his holidays mixed up.
