8:10 a.m.

When the phone rings at 8:10 a.m. on a holiday, I suspect it is NOT a telemarketer. It must be news about Kathy. Sure enough. When Robert answers the phone and says "Hi Tim" then motions me to pick up I am excited.Tim tells us Kathy's water broke and they have been in the hospital since 7:00 this morning. She is dilated at five and a half centimeters.

Tim calls to give us an update. Kathy is moving right along, doctor says the baby will likely come in the next hour. She has had an epidermal so she is cruising (Tim's word). Contractions are every two minutes and bearable enough for Kathy to have taken a nap.

"He's here!" Tim calls to tell us. Blond hair and blue eyes. 6 pounds, 15 ounces. He arrived around 3:00. Mommy is resting. Tim says pictures will be coming once he gets home to take them off the camera.

Kathy calls. She sounds very tired. Baby is sleeping next to her in a heated bed. "It all happened so fast!" She tells us.

She and Tim have named their new little boy Rylan Alexander!
