Train and tram rides today! On
our ride, first on a tram then on a train, to
the summit of Snaefell Mountain, we were able to see
the Great
Laxey Wheel (pictured at right).
The Great Laxey Wheel was
built in 1854 to pump water from the Laxey mines. It is now
the largest surviving water wheel
of its kind in the world.
Our ride took us past meadows
bordered in rock walls, fields spotted with colorful cows
oddly shared with seagulls, past backyards of neighborhoods with
Scandanavian style homes, past thickets reminding me
very much of Northwest Washington. The heavy mist
