With Tim, Kathy, Rylan and Aubrey Belizing it for a week, Sierra is spending their Central American vacation with us. This means she is scoring a blog all of her own. Well, okay, she didn't totally come by herself. Sadie is here too!

August 17 & 18, 2012:

Friday started with a cranky Sierra. She had several breakdowns and wanted her mommy. We took her swimming again and after only a half hour she said she was done so it was obvious she was tired. An afternoon nap helped and she was much happier the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Not only do naps work for attitude adjustment, doing a craft project with Sierra works too. Before she arrived to stay with us, I found a website filled

with crafts for 2 and 3-year-olds. One cute and very easy craft was to make an octopus using a toilet paper roll. She was very excited about making this. She didn't make it quite like the picture deeming it done before gluing on all of the pom poms. As far as she was concerned 12 pom poms were enough. I was disappointed but I had to remind myself *enough* is only my definition and this was her project not mine! She is enjoying her octopus a great deal. She carries him around everywhere, lets him play with her dolls and sits him close by to listen when books are being read to her. She has even been taking him to bed with her.

Friday was pancake day #3 and this time Sierra actually asked to have them. She had a favorite cabbage doll in her hands when she brought it up so decided that is what her pancake shape should be.

Bedtime for Sierra is usually a slam dunk because she is so into a set routine: brush teeth, go potty, put pajamas on, have books read (did I mention they are the same two books every time) then into the crib taking favorite blankets and dolls. Friday, for both her nap and going to bed, she broke routine! She decided she wanted to sleep in Rylan's bed for her nap and in Aubrey's bed for the night. She even asked for different books at nap time! At bedtime she decided she wanted to play for a while instead of having books read. I knew trouble was a brewing when I agreed to this. When it was time to go to bed, sure enough, she still asked for books to be read. I may have had a very unhappy girl on my hands if I hadn't remembered I could play the milk card. I gave her some warm milk in a sports bottle. Thus, the bottle and curling up in Aubrey's bed made her one happy camper. Whew.

Even though we spent all day hanging out at home again on Saturday, it was a special day for Sierra in that she was able to spend time playing with Briana Saturday night. Robert and I went to Benicia High School's 45th Class Reunion and happy to say, Kim was available to watch Sierra. Briana was very excited and made plans for what she and Sierra would do when she arrived. What a night they had. Kim had activities set up for them, coloring, stamping, and an outing to the park. She served hamburgers and fries. Then there was jumping on the trampoline, tunnel crawling, playing with Briana's new birthday toys, and putting together puzzles. When we arrived after 10:00 to pick Sierra up, she was in her pajamas and in bed with Briana. No surprise, both girls were still awake. As we were putting Sierra into the car, she had to tell us all about the tire swing she and Briana went on at the park. She was asleep by the time we reached Vallejo.

Sierra has such a sense of humor. It is obvious she has a strong understanding on what is real and how it relates to the lighter side of things. When she is in a jovial mood and replies "I don't know" or "no" to questions we ask, you can hear the playful tone in her voice (see video link at left). One time while playing around with me, she kept play-kicking me so I kept telling her, "Hey!" After I said it a few times, she tells me, "That's for cows!"

And what about Sadie? Other than barking at inopportune times waking Sierra up too soon, Sadie has been a very good girl during her stay with us. I am still in awe as to how well she is doing with our cats! Galven is a little leery of her and has taken to staying in the field and barn most of the time. Kennedy, on the other hand, will often come into the house and has no problems with hanging out near Sadie or waltzing past her if she decides she wants to go through a doorway or hallway where Sadie is laying.

Sunday will be Sierra's last day with us. We are going to miss her sweet voice and the pitter-patter of her little feet.
