With Tim, Kathy, Rylan and Aubrey Belizing it for a week, Sierra is spending their Central American vacation with us. This means she is scoring a blog all of her own. Well, okay, she didn't totally come by herself. Sadie is here too!

August 10 -11, 2012:

Sierra arrived Friday evening all decked out like the perfect little vacationer. She was not about to be left out having her own matching backpack and suitcase like big sister and big brother who left for Belize with Mom and Dad at 2 a.m. on Saturday.

She is taking the whole backpack and suitcase thing very seriously. When we went to the library Saturday morning she had to take her backpack. And it appears she plans to keep all her clothes packed inside her suitcase the entire stay.

All the excitement of getting to stay with Grandma and Grandpa by herself must have worn her out. At 7:30 she asked if she could go swimming. When Grandpa pointed out to her it was getting too dark outside, she ran off to unpack her pajamas and pull ups, donning all then ran to the bookcase to retrieve her two favorite pop-up books (I read the same two for every single bedtime routine at our house). She then headed to the bedroom to have them read to her after which she happily went to bed without a second thought. She was asleep by 8:00.

That was Friday. Saturday turned out to be a busy day. First there were Grandma's pancakes wherein she decided she wanted to eat checkers for breakfast. Before outside temperatures climbed, we all headed to the garden to help Grandpa pick corn follwed by lots of swinging, Of course Sierra made sure she didn't forget her sunglasses.

Then it was off to the library where Sierra enjoyed both picking out all the books (sans Aubrey or Rylan) and checking them out by herself (well almost—Grandpa helped a little).

Back home it was time to play board games. Sierra is good at this, she pulls out a game, pulls out all the pieces, sets them up the way she believes they should be, plays by throwing the dice, counting and randomly moving pieces around—no matter what the real rules are—then after a few minutes, she announces she is "done" and puts the game away before taking another one out.

Her nap on Saturday ended up being a short one, in the car, on the way to Benicia for the Peddlers Fair and to have cake, ice cream and watch Briana open birthday presents. It was also a great opportunity for Sierra and Briana to get to know each other better. There was a good amount of time spent warming up to each other but once they got past that part, the two had great fun together.

Going to Benicia included trampoline jumping, going out for pizza, acquiring two puzzles and four stuffed animals from the yard sale, and oh yes, getting a big bouncy rubber ball from one of those kid-grabbing toy vending machines at Round Table.

It was a long day. We didn't tuck her into bed till past 9:30. With all of the day's excitement she almost stayed awake the entire drive home from Benicia. Before giving into sleep she entertained us with songs like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Our first full day with Sierra was very delightful! The entire day Sierra was so good, so cooperative, and went along with everything. She was such a little grown up wanting to do things by herself, not asking to be carried, buckling herself into her car seat and asking to be excused when she finished eating. She said thank you at all the appropriate times. When she accidentally slipped off her chair at Round Table and bumped her chin making everyone gasp, she told us all, "I'm okay."
